Fabio wrote: I had the pleasure to see him twice and meet him in person. The first time was in Los Angeles at the Roxy opening up for Buddy Guy. I still remember not knowing who he was but soon I was totally captivated by his sound and his charismatic stage presence. I was blown away !
After his set was over I walked up to him and as a guitarist myself congratulated him on his stunning performance and briefly talked about national guitars. He was kind and gentle a great person.
After Buddy's set was over (his show not as good as John's) all I could think was about John's music and to my delight few weeks later One Believer was out in the stores.
I already was one (a believer) and will always be one. The last time I saw him was maybe a month before he passed away at the Troubadour in L.A. I took a whole roll of pictures of him. I was right in front of the stage and did not use a flash so not to bother him.
The show just blew my mind, he was simply fantastic and the energy could be felt throughout the room. Again after the show I was able to shake his hand, get his autograph and tell him what is music meant to me. When a month later I read in a Blues magazine he was gone I was devastated, funny did he know his time was up ? Listen to his lyrics ...give one last breath to tell my baby goodbye .....they say the great blues man know when their time is up. If he had lived...................
Fabio has also contributed some great memorabilia including a few photos of John that he collected and a copy of John's autograph that he received after the Troubador show.
